Our son, Tate, has always been an avid hunter. Over the years he's really enjoyed hunting in the Midwest... Deer, duck, pheasants you name it.
When he turned 12, I decided it was time to give into his constant begging of experiencing 'real' hunting in Texas... because for years, as we've been told, there's nothing like it. Little did we know at the time, we would soon find out how true this really is.
Hesitantly, I started looking online for a resort... someone, somewhere who would allow us to hunt their land. I searched for months... I wanted this to be a good experience for Tate. I came across John's website, and after much contemplation, I gave him a call. I felt good with my decision, but, a person never knows what they'll find until you actually arrive
These North Dakota boys arrived at Boars Nest Hunts on Thursday, January 15th. We started our hunt by hunting for ram (Tate's pick). Sure enough, just as John had promised, we weren't in the woods very long and a number of ram walked in front of us. Watching Tate shoot his first Ram, on Texas dirt, is a feeling I will never forget. John then put us up in one of his blinds with a feeder and lights. Just before dark Tate was then able to shoot a hog. The next day, since Tate doesn't sit long, we soon started to walk around looking for hogs. As luck would have it, we saw a number of them and Tate Bagged a nice one in the woods.
The website does not do justice to what this resort offers. John treated us like we were more than a friend... he treated us like family. I have a hunch my son and I now have a new yearly tradition... leaving these cold North Dakota days and trading them in for a few days of warmth doing a little 'real' hunting in Texas and.. as long as John will take us... we'll never stay anywhere else.
I would highly recommend Boars Nest Hunts to anyone. I am confident your experience will be much the same as ours. You are welcome to shoot me an email, and I would be happy to give a recommendation. Lrcoltom@yahoo.com
