Last night we didn’t get a shot at anything under the feeders so we went out looking for them. We saw several running in the distance but they were too small, too fast or too far away. We decided to head back to the feeder we’d started at for one last try. As we pulled into the clearing he saw several hogs moving fast through the woods to our right. I could see movement at best but couldn’t see clearly, only that they were moving very quickly. I stopped the Ranger and could see the end of the group about to move of our view and in to the thicker woods. Connor got his scope on them and took the shot so quickly I didn’t even see the one he was aiming at. We heard it go down. He’d taken a 50-yard shot with a window of view of about 10 yards (side to side) all within seconds of my stopping and turning off the Ranger. He’d taken down a sow weight about 90 pounds! He was so excited he could hardly contain himself and I was so shocked that he’d made such a tough shot, it took several minutes for it to really sink in. We then got to learn together as we dressed out and quartered the hog. This was a first for both of us doing it ourselves. It took longer than it probably should have but with their rig, it was actually much easier than I’d thought it would be. We got a good amount of meat to take home! This is by far the most fun we’ve had bonding as father and son. We can’t wait for out next hunt!
